Morrissey (UK)
The voice of the 1980s’ youth and the main British rock crooner of the 2000s, Steven Patrick Morrissey is very contradictory by nature. He’s notorious for repeated vituperations against imperfection of contemporary society, and his “signature” phrases that he loves nobody and gets nervous when he has to communicate with people headline most publications about him. Morrissey’s emphatic and unlikely to be artificial detachment from the world goes well with his image of an aristocratic-looking misanthrope who has found the key to the ears of millions of people – a once-in-a-century character to meet. And no wonder that Radiohead, Suede, Oasis and even David Cameron, leader of the British Conservative Party, have at different times paid homage to The Smiths and Morrissey alone.
