Nina Hagen (GER)
A cult personality of the nowadays, the mother of punk rock, a defender of the rights of the animals and aliens, to some extent an established actress, a singer with the disposition of an opera diva, and Germany’s Zhanna Aguzarova – the great and terrible Nina Hagen again in Moscow! October 21, B1 MAXIMUM.
Ellochka the Cannibal, a character from the novel “Twelve Chairs” by Ilf and Petrov, has quite a poor vocabulary that includes two words – “gloom” and “ghastly” – and that’s quite enough for describing Nina Hagen’s biography if you’d like to use only a few words. In fact, it means the following: she was kicked out from the pioneer organization, started smoking, using drugs and having sex at 13 years old (began songwriting even earlier), she failed entrance exams to a drama college, started a career of a rock singer, emigrated from Germany due to political problems, returned to the country a year afterwards, and formed her own band…
There’s no need to add anything else to this, because it’s quite obvious that the first record brought her the first worldwide success.
Nina Hagen, however, and to her credit, didn’t get stuck on what she had reached and – due to either her restless temper or eccentricity – went on searching. She rushed into extremes, and her interest in religions, her consciousness experiments, numerous relocations, including the US, her contacts and communications with UFOs and extraterrestrial civilizations – all those things had a great effect on her works that hadn’t been ordinary from the beginning. At the same time, Hagen kept on releasing albums, playing gigs, participating in various exhibitions and performances – in other words, she led a busy spiritual life.
And she still hasn’t slowed down her activities, paying no attention to any comments and anyone’s reaction and being nobody but herself. She stars in the mainstream movies, performs Brecht's opera arias and Rammstein's songs, she’s a jury-member in the German version of Star Academy reality show, and so on…
Her new album is set for release in 2009, and it’s undoubtedly going to be one of her ever-enthusiastic sails across the human mind. B1 Maximum will see most of her new compositions, and if you are not afraid of the eccentric experience – welcome to Nina Hagen's gothic-paranoid-absurd-extravaganza theater!
