Nochnye Snaypery (RUS)
Diana Arbenina and Nochnye Snaypery are finishing work on their fifth electric album titled “Armiya 2009” (Army 2009). It’s been a bit more than two years since the release of its predecessor, “Bonny & Clyde”, experimental in all respects. Unlike “Bonny & Clyde”, the new album is being created by Nochnye Snaypery only, namely by Diana Arbenina, Ivan Ivolga, Dmitriy Gorelov, Andrey Titkov and Dmitriy Maksimov. In a way, it’s their back-to-basics album, their comeback to the traditional Snaypery sound, and, if we can draw a parallel here, their new work is going to be more like their 2002’s album “Tsunami”.
However, Nochnye Snaypery aren’t going round in circles in their development – it’s rather a spiral in their case, and each new spiral segment isn’t a mere copy of the previous one. The new album will surely feature a new sound, as well as all kinds of experiments and, first of all, the new songs.
“At the beginning of this year, I went to Latin America with a strong intention to take a long break,” says Diana Arbenina. “But I couldn’t stand it for long, and after two weeks out there I wanted the gigs badly. In Argentina and Chile I wrote a set of songs – the core of the new album. And I think nobody will hear them until the record is released.”
The band’s fans, however, have already heard two songs from the upcoming album: the first one is “Prekrasnykh Dney” (Of Beautiful Days), a minimalist lyrical composition that has received a heavy airplay on Russian radio stations. The video for this song (directed by Diana Arbenina), is broadcast on major TV channels. And the second track is “Yuzhnyi Polyus” (South Pole), an epic and a real Snaypery song with the deep and transparent arrangement and intentionally modest vocals. “Yuzhnyi Polyus” has for two months stayed in the Top 3 of Nashe Radio’s chart called Chartova Dyuzhina.
There will be 13 tracks in the new album, most of which have been written by Diana this year. Currently, the recording process is being finished with the help from Vladimir Ovchinnikov at Mosfilm’s Tone Studio. The other day in Los Angeles they began mixing the record. Mixing and mastering are set to be done in late August, and the new album is due for release on September 9, 2009.
The album’s presentation gigs will be held at B1 Maximum on September 25 and 26.
