Rise Against were formed in 1999 by Tim McIlrath and Joe Principe from the ashes of Joe’s band called 88 Fingers Louie, and the new outfit was based on the old one’s experience – a blend of aggressive and rare melodic punk and tough hardcore, augmented by a strong message because of the lyrics and Tim’s vocals. In fact, they invented an unexpected style with non-serious music and socially conscious message – “thought-provoking” music, according to the musicians.

A year after they first met, Rise Against played their first gig. Plus the band found a drummer that exceeded their expectations, Colorado-native Brandon Barnes.

In spring 2001, the band released their first full-length album, "The Unraveling". After two years of hard work and solid touring, Rise Against recorded their sophomore album, "Revolutions Per Minute", and embarked on the renowned Warped Tour. By that time, the band had already earned a strong reputation.

2006 saw the release of their album "The Sufferer & The Witness", which shot straight into the top 10 of the Billboard 200 and went platinum in Canada. At the same time the band’s DVD titled “Generation Lost” went gold in Canada in its first week of sales.

Their album "Appeal To Reason" was released on October 6, 2008. The album peaked at number three on the Billboard 200. Summer of 2009 saw them tour with such punk rock bands as Rancid, Billy Talent and Riverboat Gamblers, and this autumn Rise Against are coming to Moscow.
